Another Open in the books and it was definitely one to remember. Highlights included disqualified equipment. (18.1) think xebex. New standards that shook most people up (HSPU) (18.4) and Castro's latest change up by giving the community an oppurtunity to vote on the final workout. (18.5) Below we took a look at each workout who won the workout and some of the top Instagram posts from the Open. Enjoy the recap!

Workout 18.1
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
8 toes-to-bars
10 dumbbell hang clean and jerks
12/14-cal. row

Women use 35-lb. dumbbell
Men use 50-lb. dumbbell

1st Place Finish

Men: Nicolai Duus

Women: Samantha Briggs

The story here was all about the rower. Apparently there were a few in the community using xebex which created an advantage vs. the concept 2 rowers. HQ came out to squash it right away.

Who out there using that xebex configuration?? 😡😂 - I wanna know!!

Apparently 18.2a had a caused a large epidemic of loss of ability to control body fluids  😬It started trending pretty hard, almost as if it was now the "in" thing to do. Below is just one example of this type of behavior.

This workout pretty much seperated the elite from the rest of the pack. As a matter of fact the video below pretty much sums up the thoughts of thousands of hopeful athletes competing in the Open.

Outside of the insane time cap and the amount of heavy volume there was also a bit of drama over the new HSPU standards. Seemed most had a frustrating time adjusting to the new standard and it made for some interesting commentary on the interweb. Even Castro had his say on the matter:

Workout 18.5 = 12.5 = 11.6
Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes of:
3 thrusters
3 chest-to-bar pull-ups
6 thrusters

12 chest-to-bar pull-ups
15 thrusters
15 chest-to-bar pull-ups
18 thrusters
18 chest-to-bar pull-ups
This is a timed workout. If you complete the round of 18, go on to 21. If you complete 21, go on to 24, etc.
Women use 65 lb.
Men use 100 lb.

1st Place Finish

Men: Mathew Fraser

Women: Kara Saunders

In an Open first the community got to vote for 1 of 3 workouts. I was skeptical pre release of the workouts that this could've been a ruse of some sort. Picking your poison so to speak. And that it was - although it could've been worse - see post below for my nightmare:

😂 who came up with this? #18point5

And although it wasn't that extreme checkout this post below from Björgvin K. Guðmundsson who completely touched the sun and barely made it back:

So another memorable Open in the books. I hope you had an amazing one. Learned a little , got a little fitter, but most importantly had yourself a damn good time with your fit community. Cheers to you!
